Category A1 Rules For Motorcyclists

The category a1 rules are applicable to those who want to ride small motorcycles. They have capacity of cylinders up to 35 kW. They cannot be derived from vehicles of more than twice their power.

Open category drone operations are divided into three subcategories - A1 to A3. You can fly drones with the class label C0 or A1 within the A1 subcategory (flying over people) until January 2024.

A1

Category A1 is the earliest of three drone categories subject to the control of EASA. It applies to aircrafts that are up to the maximum takeoff mass (MTOM) that is 25 kilograms. It requires a log of flight, a flight plan as well as a remote identification system, and a geoawareness. The drone must also be visible to the pilot at all times. It is prohibited to fly over people or areas used for recreational, commercial or industrial reasons. The drone should stay within 120 meters.

Applicants for an A1 license must have at least 16 years of experience riding two-wheeled motor vehicles. They must also have completed the compulsory basic training, and passed both a theory and practical test. They also need to have an official medical certificate.

A1 license holders are able to ride two-wheeled mopeds so the capacity for cylinders is not greater than 125cc and their power-to-weight ratio is no more than 0.1 kW/kg. They can also ride motorcycles with the maximum capacity of 125cc as well as trikes, quad bikes and quad-bikes.

The category A1 driving licence is designed to facilitate access to the next vehicle category, which allows licence holders to drive vehicles with a maximum mass of up 35 kW. This allows you to get experience driving smaller-powered vehicles before making the move to higher categories of licence.

Drones currently in use but don't have the CE mark can be operated under the subcategory "A1" until January 1st, 2024. This is because they are considered low risk and do not pose a significant risk to the general public. However, they must be at a distance of 150 meters from structures or areas of industry, and also from recreational areas. Additionally, they should not fly over crowds or operate within 5 kilometres of airports and airfields.

A2

You may be eligible to apply for an A1 motorcycle license if you have completed your CBT and are interested in obtaining a motorcycle license. This permits you to operate an unrestricted motorcycle with no sidecar. The vehicle must have a maximum cylinder capacity of 125cc, as well as an output power of 11kW. You can also fly drones with the maximum weight of 4kg in the A2 category However, they must be kept at a safe distance from people during take-off and landing. The distances of separation are lateral, not vertical, and the drones must be kept to a minimum of 30m away from people who aren't involved, or 5m when in  low-speed mode. If you want to fly larger drones, you'll have to apply for an operator's license for the particular category. This requires you to complete the General VLOS Certificate training, the flight test, and then prepare an Operations Manual. A2 permits you to fly drones with transitional capabilities that aren't yet CE-marked but have been modified to lessen collision risks with people. These drones will only be allowed to fly in A2 until end of 2022. After that, they will need to comply with the A3 rules.

The A1 and A2 categories are designed to aid you in becoming a safer and confident motorcyclist. A3


This category permits drones with a a maximum takeoff mass of 25 kg. It is a lower-risk operation, however strict precautions must be taken to prevent incidents. A distance of 150 metres is required between drones and commercial, residential industrial, recreational, and residential areas. This category also requires drones to be equipped with an identification system for remotes and a geoawareness system.

As with the Open category the tier is split into subcategories A1,A2 and A3. The A1 subcategory allows drones with Class Identification Label C0 or C1 to fly above people who are not in the drone. It imposes the requirement of a minimum distance of 30 meters from other drones when flying at an altitude of flight, or 5 meters in slow flight mode.

Drones bearing the Class Identification Label C2 may be operated under subcategory A2 provided they meet the requirements of size, and the remote pilot has passed a knowledge test. This exam is designed to assess the remote pilot's comprehension of the technical and operational mitigations that address the added risks of flying larger drones (class C2, weighing less than 4kg mass) close to people. The certificate of ability to fly Category A2 is given after successful completion of this test.

There are  transitional arrangements which allow older drones that are not certified, to operate under the categories A1 or A2 for a period of two years following the introduction of the new EU regulations. Legacy drones are not permitted to be intentionally flown above people and must be operated by an A2 CofC.

To operate drones in this category, you must pass the standard online flyer ID test and then pass an additional theoretical test. You must also declare that you have some actual knowledge of your drone and then submit a written proof of competence. These requirements are similar to the driving licence model whereby those who first get the licence for a lower powerful vehicle category can gain easier access to an upgrade to a higher category.

A4

The DOH is currently preparing guidelines for category A4. They will be in line with the other procedures and will include information like the number of dressing changes each day. They will be presented to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infections (IATF-EID) and the DOH National Immunization Technical Advisory Group. The IATF EID and the DOH National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization will be reviewing and approving these guidelines prior to their being finalized.

Drones that have the class identification label C0 or C1 may fly within 50 metres of people who aren't involved in the incident. This is a very low-risk category, but strict precautions must be taken to prevent accidents. Drones that are not classified in either A1 or A2 must pass an additional theoretical knowledge examination to be operated in this subcategory.

This test is designed to assess your knowledge of the additional risks that come from flying drones in close proximity to people. A successful passing of the test earns a certificate of competence for this subcategory. The operator must also keep at least 30 meters from any person who is not involved or 5 metres when flying in a slow flight mode.

You have to complete a certain amount of lessons to pass the theory test, and then you must pass the practical test. It's based on your age, capabilities and progress in learning. A minimum of 12 90-minute lessons must be completed.

During these lessons you will be able to familiarize yourself with your vehicle and traffic regulations. In addition, you will be given useful tips for driving in difficult areas. You should also take part in certain special rides in addition to the mandatory driving lessons.

The new category E effectively combines the classes A1 (retail) A1 (retail) (financial services and professional services) B1 (offices) A4 (restaurants/cafes), and A5 and B5 for hot food takeaway. It also includes health/medical uses such as creches and nurseries, and indoor recreation facilities. The new licensing system is expected to streamline and cut costs. It will also permit landlords to use their buildings in ways that aren't currently allowed.
